Arrive at Durban’s King Shaka International Airport, where you will be welcomed by your guide. After transferring to your hotel along the Golden Mile beachfront, take part in a brief orientation to the area. Depending on your arrival time, enjoy a leisurely walking tour of the local area, exploring Durban’s coastal views. End the day with a welcome dinner at your hotel.

Begin the day with an in-country orientation session, introducing you to South African culture, history, and expectations for the trip. Afterward, explore Durban with a city tour that covers key sites such as the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Victoria Street Market, and the Indian Quarter. In the afternoon, embark on a fun Segway tour along the Golden Mile beachfront promenade or, as a cost-saving option, spend some time relaxing at the beach.

Immerse yourself in Zulu culture with a full day dedicated to learning about the traditions, history, and modern lifestyle of the Zulu people. Begin with a visit to a rural Zulu village to experience their customs firsthand, including traditional dances, storytelling, and crafting demonstrations. Later, explore the urban side of Zulu life in Durban, visiting cultural centers and museums.

Travel overland to Johannesburg, passing through the scenic Drakensberg Mountains and climbing to the Highveld escarpment. The journey will take approximately 5-6 hours, offering beautiful views of the South African countryside. Upon arrival in Soweto, check into your hostel and enjoy a traditional dinner at Lebo’s Soweto Backpackers.
Overnight: Soweto/Johannesburg
Explore Soweto by bicycle with a guided tour led by the team at Lebo’s. Visit key historical sites such as Vilakazi Street, Nelson Mandela’s former home, and the Hector Pieterson Memorial. After a local lunch, participate in a social impact activity, engaging with the local community through educational or sports-related projects. End the day with dinner around the campfire.
Overnight: Soweto/Johannesburg
Visit the powerful Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg to learn about South Africa’s history of segregation and the fight for freedom. In the afternoon, head to the Origins Centre at the University of the Witwatersrand, where you’ll participate in an Ochre Workshop. Learn about the ancient use of ochre by early humans, create ochre paint, and make your own ‘ancient art.’

Leave Soweto and travel to Pilanesberg National Park, stopping en route at the Cradle of Humankind, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the Sterkfontein Caves, where some of the earliest human fossils were discovered. After lunch, continue to your accommodation near Pilanesberg National Park, where you’ll settle in for the evening.

Begin the day with an early morning game drive in Pilanesberg National Park, home to Africa’s Big Five: lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffalo. After lunch in the park, embark on a second game drive, keeping an eye out for diverse wildlife and taking in the beautiful landscape of the reserve. Return to your lodge for dinner.

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Cape Town. Upon arrival in Cape Town, take a walking orientation tour of the city, where you’ll get your first views of Table Mountain. Check into your hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening.

Ride the Aerial Cableway to the top of Table Mountain, where you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Cape Town and the surrounding coastline. In the afternoon, participate in a community engagement project with a local soccer program, connecting with local youth through sports and cultural exchange.

Visit the endangered African penguin colony at Boulders Beach, where you’ll learn about the conservation efforts to protect these charismatic creatures. Continue to the Cape of Good Hope, the southernmost tip of the Cape Peninsula, where you can hike and explore the dramatic cliffs and coastal landscapes.
Overnight: Cape Town
Spend the morning at a local high school in Cape Town, engaging with students and learning about the South African education system. In the afternoon, hike up Lion’s Head, a striking peak adjacent to Table Mountain, offering incredible views of the city and the Atlantic Ocean. Conclude the day with a farewell dinner at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.

After breakfast, transfer to Cape Town International Airport for your departure, bringing your South African adventure to an end.
