Itinerary

Depart from the United States and fly to Ghana. Due to travel time and crossing the dateline, you will arrive the next day.

Overnight: Overnight flight

Upon arrival at Kotoka International Airport in Accra, you will be greeted by your tour director and escorted to a comfortable hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy your first traditional Ghanaian meal or a cultural and historical orientation session.

Overnight: Accra

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel to fuel up for a day of exploring the city! Start at the bustling Makola Market, where you can find pretty much anything you can think of. After, visit the Ghana National Museum for an overview of the country’s history, followed by a trip to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and the W.E.B. Du Bois Centre for Pan Africanism. End the day at Independence Square.

Overnight: Accra

Depart Accra and head to the Volta Region, stopping at Krobo-Odumase to learn about bead-making traditions. Continue to Amedzofe, the highest settlement in Ghana, and hike to Mount Gemi for a sunset view.

Overnight: Amedzofe

Another day of incredible Ghanian adventures! Visit Wli Falls, the tallest waterfall in West Africa. After a hike, visit the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary to interact with mona monkeys. Head to your accommodation in Ho for the night.

Overnight: Ho

Today will start the service learning component of your program. Head to Biakpa Village and learn about the community and the current projects they are working on. Engage in various activities such as helping in the local school, community farm, or participating in a clean-up exercise. The day will be a good mix of service and breaks.

Continue your service project in Biakpa Village. Enjoy a homestay-style meal with a local family, gaining an authentic insight into Ghanaian customs and traditions. End the day with a group reflection session.

Overnight: Ho

Complete your service work in Biakpa and participate in a farewell ceremony with the community; a highlight of the program for most students. After your goodbyes, make your way back to Accra and check into your hotel.

Travel to Cape Coast, stopping in Anomabu to observe local fishermen at work drying and preserving their fish. After lunch in Cape Coast, visit the Cape Coast Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where your guide will take you on a tour through the rooms formerly occupied by slaves bound for the New World. This castle also houses the West African Historical Museum. 

Overnight: Cape Coast.

Visit Kakum National Park, home to Ghana’s tropical rainforests, where you will walk across seven canopy bridges hanging thirty meters above the forest floor. After descending from the canopy, take a nature walk through the forest to discover various flora species and their medicinal values. Later, visit St. George’s Castle in Elmina, the first European building in Sub-Saharan Africa, and enjoy a traditional cultural performance showcasing local music and dance.

Overnight: Cape Coast

Spend a relaxing day at the beach, watching local fishermen and enjoying the coastal scenery. In the afternoon, return to Accra, waving to quiet fishing villages along the coast. In the evening, gather for dinner to reflect on your experiences and share lessons learned from this immersive journey.

Visit the Christianborg Castle to learn about its historical significance and role in Ghana’s path to independence. Explore Jamestown, home to the Jamestown Lighthouse, Ussher Fort, and the fishing harbor, where you will learn about the local way of life and colonial history. Finally, visit the Centre for National Culture to bargain for paintings, masks, and other crafts before heading to the airport for your flight home.
